What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder that affects cognitive functioning, behaviour, and emotional regulation. There is a persistent pattern of common symptoms (inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity) that can significantly impose on a person's daily life.

Key Characteristics of ADHD:

|

Inattentive Type: Individuals with ADHD may experience difficulties with staying focused on tasks or make frequent mistakes due to missing small details. They find themselves easily distracted by extraneous stimuli, or can have trouble staying organised or following through on instructions.

|

Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Characterised by hyperactivity and impulsive behaviours without as much inattention. These individuals may appear extremely restless or engage in behaviours without thinking of the consequences, which can lead to accidents or interpersonal issues.

Combined Type: The most common type. As the name implies, it is a combination of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
